1. our Origin In 2010, first-generation farmers Sarah and Tom started Flying Plow Farm with just three acres, a shoestring budget, and a lot of grit. By 2013, we found our forever home in Rising Sun, Maryland. Today, we cultivate 15 acres of certified organic vegetables and manage a diverse pasture of Cheviot sheep, laying hens, broiler chickens, and Belgian & Suffolk Punch workhorses which we use to cultivate our crops, instead of tractors. 2. Our Mission Our mission is simple: bring fresh, healthy, organic food to our neighbors across the MD, DE, and PA tri-state region. We believe healthy soil is a living ecosystem and the foundation of everything we grow. 3. Farming Practices Our certified organic farm operates as a (true!) closed-loop cycle where livestock and vegetables work in harmony: pastured poultry, sheep, and pigs naturally fertilize the fields, draft horses power our fieldwork, and animal manure is composted to enrich our seasonal cover crops. Sustainability and land stewardship aren't loose ideals here. 4. The big little idea On its own, our 50-acre farm is ecologically tiny. However, by aggregating real food from 70+ local partner producers, we multiply the impact of our sustainable, organic farming practices to build a thriving regional food system.
